Algeria Set To Face Uruguay In Early August
The “Fennecs” have replaced their August 12th friendly versus Cape Verde with one against the South Americans in order to prepare for their World Cup qualifier versus Zambia...
The North African country’s footballers, led by Karim Ziani, asked their FA to make the change because they’d like to evaluate their level against tougher opponents before they host Zambia, whom they convincingly beat in Chililabombwe, for their fourth World Cup qualifier.
It was feared that the Cape Verde would not be able to draft their top players and thus would have to resort to fielding amateurs versus the Algerians and the announcement of the change of opponent has been well received.
While there is a verbal understanding between the two federations, the fixture will reportedly become an official one on July 10, when both parties sign the agreement document and have it faxed to FIFA who will put it in their calendar.
The Algerians are also planning on putting a complete program of work that will detail all the major dates, whether they be matches or training camps, up to next summer when South Africa 2010 kick off.
