thumbnail Hello,

Kirchner told a Chinese audience that she shares the same family heritage as Villa, Iniesta, Alonso and the rest of the Roja heroes.

Argentine president Cristina Kirchner was over the moon at Spain's World Cup triumph yesterday in Johannesburg due to her numerous Roja ancestors.

Kirchner, whose maiden name is Fernandez, revealed her Spanish roots during a press conference in China, when a student asked how she felt when the 'Furia Roja' lifted the trophy for the first time.

"I am very happy that Spain has won the title for the first time, it involves me a little because I am the granddaughter of Spaniards. Out of my four Grandparents, three are Spanish," she stated to the appreciation and laughs of the Beijing university where she was giving her interview.

Kirchner also praised the efforts of Argentina in the World Cup, despite the team exiting in the quarter-finals when many saw them as one of the favourites in South Africa. Previously the president had also publicly stated her satisfaction with the Albiceleste effort, even going as far as inviting coach Diego Maradona to dine at the 'Casa Rosada' in appreciation of his side's performances.
