World Cup 2010: Celebrity Visitors To South Africa Tweet Positively About The Country
It seems that the celebrities who have made their way to South Africa are filling Twitter with tweets about how much they are enjoying the people and their time in the country.

Various celebrities have been in South Africa during the World Cup to experience the action and the vibe in the country at the moment. Actors John Travolta and Leonardo Di Caprio and singers Mick Jagger and R Kelly, as well as socialite Paris Hilton, have all travelled to South Africa for the tournament, and some of these famous personalities have commented on Twitter about their stay in the country.
Miller Matola, chief of Brand South Africa, a government agency tasked with marketing the country abroad, told Mybroadband: "Social media has revolutionalised word of mouth marketing. We are thrilled by the kind of feedback celebrities have given to the world about the country.
"People tend to trust information that comes from their idols. What they say is like some sort of a stamp of approval."
Twitter said last week that World Cup football kicked the number of 'tweets' fired off at the micro-blogging service to a record of 3,283 per second. The normal rate of tweets averages 750 per second, according to the company, which had warned users to expect outages as it copes with the heavy traffic during the World Cup.
During the month long event, celebrities have shared scenic pictures of top tourism sites and have vowed to come back.
Will.i.am, of the music group Black Eyed Peas, posted pictures of himself and singer Alicia Keys celebrating South Africa's first goal at the opening match, and wrote: "20 years ago no one would have never thought the whole world would come to south africa for world cup...this is historic".
R Kelly Has Been Pleased With His Time In South Africa
Former supermodel Kimora Lee Simmons tweeted to her fans on the social networking site about Cape Town and South Africa, posting pictures of the landmark Table Mountain from her room.
On her departure, Kimora promised to come back and stay longer. "I am very sad 2 b leaving the gorgeous S.Africa! Thank u 2 all 4 ur luv and kindness! We'll b back very, very soon! Team Fabulosity SA rocks," she said.
Latin singing sensation Shakira, who happens to sing the official World Cup song, wrote on her Twitter page: "I don't want the #worldcup to end! Join me on my petition to FIFA to extend for one more month! You think I have a chance??"
Singer Akon declared his love for the country and the continent by posting mini-videos shot at different locations around South Africa. "South Africa rocks, this is the place to be," the star said on Twitter. "Thank You S. Africa!!," said R Kelly on his departure.
Socialite Paris Hilton has also been in the country recently while following the World Cup and attended the game between Brazil and Holland.
The hotel heiress has had only good things to say on her Twitter account about the host nation, tweeting things like: "Finally here! Just landed in Johannesburg, South Africa. So excited to be here! :)", as well as: "Love it here! Love The World Cup!," and recently: "The sky is so beautiful in South Africa!"
One of her most recent posts says: "Having the most incredible time in South Africa. This place is magical! I Love Life!"
It seems that life in South Africa is agreeing with the rich and famous celebrities who have made their way to the tip of Africa for this World Cup, and they will certainly not be the last celebs to grace the rainbow nation, with the success of the event and the great advert for the country that is the 2010 World Cup.
