Arsenal striker Robin van Persie wants to follow in the footsteps of club legend and countryman Dennis Bergkamp and wear the number 10 shirt next season, according to the Metro.
Van Persie, 27, had previously been persuaded to wear the number 11 jersey due to fears of being compared to player who was inducted into the English football Hall of Fame in 2007. The decision to refuse to hand William Gallas a new contract - who wore the number for four years after arriving from Chelsea - has left a space in the club's roster which the Netherlands World Cup 2010 star intends to fill.
A request has already been sent to the Arsenal hierarchy and a decision will be made after he returns from South Africa. New signing Marouane Chamakh is expected to inherit the number 11 if the switch is made.
