World Cup 2010: French Football President Jean-Pierre Escalettes Ashamed Of Fiasco
By Stefan Coerts
Jul 2, 2010 3:00:00 PM
Escalettes has labelled France's World Cup campaign a fiasco...
Much has already been said about the performances of France's national side at the 2010 World Cup and outgoing French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes has now made it clear that Les Bleus' display in South Africa was a fiasco."I am ashamed for what happened at the World Cup and I present my apologies to the French football world," Escalettes was quoted as saying by reporters.
"I have always appealed to my heart and mind, in my professional life and in life in general, and there, I found myself up against youths for whom these arguments had no weight. I take responsibility for being unable to convince these players to get off the bus and do their job.
"I was disappointed in head coach Raymond Domenech for his behaviour after the match against South Africa, but above all I'm disappointed in myself. Domenech afterwards apologised with a lot of humility."
France were held to a scoreless draw by Uruguay before being beaten by Mexico and South Africa in their remaining group games.
