World Cup 2010: Fabio Cannavaro Explains Italy's Failure
Cannavaro has shared his World Cup regrets...
By Salvatore Landolina
But first he has pointed the finger towards injury excuses.
"I would have liked to have played it with [Gianluigi] Buffon and [Andrea] Pirlo," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"If I think of how we lost shine on the pitch... in the first half against Slovakia I saw players that were pale and running around empty."
And Cannavaro could see the treasure he had hoped for slipping away.
"I knew we were not going to come out of it and I didn't want my last Italy game to end that way," he added.
Cannavaro feels too many mistakes were never going to build the vehicle to drive on towards the last 16.
"There was too much fear, the wrong system, and from this we went out. Champions like [Wayne] Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo went home," he added.
"It means if you don't have a team then you won't go far."
