Former South African President Nelson Mandela will host the Ghanaian national team at his Cape Town home on July 3.

The South African icon issued the special invitation after the Black Stars' impressive performance in the ongoing global football fiesta.

Ghana’s sports minister Akua Sena Dansua confirmed the news to Accra-based Citi FM.

“I am informed that the municipality of Port Elizabeth has offered to bring the Black Stars to Cape Town on Saturday where they would have an interaction with the former President of South Africa, Mr. Nelson Mandela," she said.

Meanwhile, the only African side remaining in the competition will also meet President Jacob Zuma among other personalities on Thursday and will be presented with a symbolic Ghana flag containing signatures of various people rooting for them to aim high in the competition.

Reports gathered by Goal.com said President Zuma, CAF President Isa Hayatou, Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and ex-president Thabo Mbeki among others have signed the Ghana flag.

“We understand also that the ANC has also invited the Stars for a presentation on Thursday but we don’t know whether it is in the form of a citation or cash,” Dansua added.

Meanwhile several South African provinces have also announced that their citizens should start wearing the national colours of Ghana to support the Black Stars in their quarter-final match against Uruguay on Friday, July 2.
