Something was not quite right according the playmaker's dad...Christian Gourcuff, head coach of Lorient and father of France star Yoann Gourcuff, has admitted to feeling more than a little anxious when watching his son play in the World Cup.
There were rumours that the young midfield playmaker was being bullied by more senior members of les Bleus’ set-up, and Gourcuff Snr has admitted that all was not necessarily well with his son over the time he spent in South Africa.
“I was worried for his well being,” les Merlus’ boss told Europe 1. “I know enough to see that when he was on the ground, something was wrong.”
A highly successful coach in Ligue 1, Gourcuff has pointed the finger of blame towards Raymond Domenech for les Bleus’ miserable capitulation, which has led to a government inquest to demand answers over exactly what went on.
“Football is a collective game; we need to manage the collective interest and personalities,” Gourcuff stated. “It is the role of the coach. Otherwise, there would be no need for one.”
Further revelations are expected over the coming days and weeks as to exactly what went on in the France camp during their unsuccessful and rather embarrassing tour.
