Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano was snubbed by Italy coach Marcello Lippi and the Azzurri clearly lacked an attacker with imagination at the 2010 World Cup as they crashed out in the group stage. The 27-year-old instead got married during the time the tournament was ongoing.

"I'm in heaven, happy that I am married," he was quoted as saying by Italian gossip magazine Chi.

"I don't know, if I was on the field, that things would have gone differently for the national team. In light of the facts, it's useless to get into this controversy."

Francesco Totti and Cassano were team-mates at Roma, but endured a frosty relationship after the latter left for Real Madrid. However, it seems they have put their differences aside as the Giallorossi captain wished Cassano well after his nuptuals.

"Totti didn't come to the wedding, but he sent me a very nice SMS," revealed the Blucerchiati playmaker.

Cassano recently revealed his hopes of being selected by new Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.
