World Cup 2010: Juan Sebastian Veron Warns Argentina The Time For Fun And Games Is Over
Veteran calls for focus ahead of opener…
By Rupert Fryer
Argentina midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has warned his team-mates that the time for fun and games is over as they prepare for their opening World Cup fixture with Nigeria this weekend.
“On the field, we have to play, not dance samba. Otherwise the yellow (Brazil) would always win,” Veron told a press conference today when asked about the fun and games the squad have been enjoying in training this week.
The 35-year-old playmaker went on to echo comments from Gabriel Heinze yesterday that Argentina are more than just a one-man team.
"It is wrong to lay all the responsibility on him,” he said when asked about FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi.
“I see Messi doing very well, he's playing with great enthusiasm. But we are 23 players, which is bigger than any importance he might have. The whole group is what will dictate whether we achieve something important or not.”
