The 10 Argentine 'barra brava' hooligans that were expelled from South Africa yesterday landed in Buenos Aires. They were greeted by a strong police presence and a media scrum, which at one point threatened to turn nasty.

The individuals had flown as part of a larger of group of barras who belong to the government-linked NGO 'Hinchadas Unidas Argentinas' (Argentine Football Fans United), who are expected to have a presence of some 280 people in South Africa.
These particular men though were detained and deported by South African officials, who discovered outstanding violent convictions and criminal investigations on their records.

On arriving in Argentina, some of them were taken into custody by police waiting at the gate. Among those detained was Sergio Roldan, the head of the barra at second division San Martin (Tucuman), who had violated the terms of his parole by flying. He had previously received an eight-year sentence for attempted murder.

There were also some unsavoury scenes with local media as the barras exited Ezeiza airport. Some men took exception to being filmed, leading to pushing and minor scuffles between the news crews and the hooligans.
