World Cup 2010: Netherlands Defender Khalid Boulahrouz Sustains Ankle Injury

World Cup hopefuls Netherlands have received some disturbing news on the injury front in the build-up to their opening game against Denmark on Monday in Johannesburg.

Head coach Bert van Marwijk may have to make do without the services of highly rated defender Khalid Boulahrouz in the group match against the Danes due to an ankle injury.

The Stuttgart defender sustained the injury during a training session on Tuesday morning. Boulahrouz was forced to leave the pitch due to the problem and could be unavailable for a number of days.

It's not yet known exactly how long Boulahrouz will be sidelined due to the knock. The versatile defender has yet to undergo further examination.

Oranje will also lock horns with Cameroon and Japan in the group phase of the World Cup.
