Slovakia earned a comfortable victory over Costa Rica in their final World Cup warm-up, but their tournament hopes were dealt a major blow when Martin Skrtel suffered an ankle injury. Contingent upon medical tests, the Liverpool defender may have to miss the World Cup.
Without Skrtel for the majority of the match, Slovakia played very well. In the 16th minute, Costa Rica defender Douglas Esteban Solano Sequeira redirected Vladimir Weiss' cross into his own net, and the hosts never looked back.
Early in the second half, Robert Vittek finished after Stanislav Sestak hit the bar, before Sestak converted a late goal from the penalty spot.
