Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has admitted it was difficult to select a provisional World Cup squad of 30 players because of the number of in-form players he had to leave out of the squad.

"It was hard. If you look at Mallorca, I could have brought Borja [Valero]; if you look at [Athletic] Bilbao, [Andoni] Iraola; if you look at [Deportivo] La Coruna, [Daniel] Aranzubia; if you look at [Atletico] Madrid, [Jose Antonio] Reyes, [Alvaro] Dominguez...," he was quoted as saying by AS.

Del Bosque also insisted that Spain are definitely capable of winning the World Cup outright but named a number of other teams as potential champions.

"Of course we can win the World Cup. The players have confidence but there are very strong teams in front of us," he stated.

"France, Italy and Germany. I am inclined to look also at Brazil and Argentina from South America and England in Europe because of their team and coach, but let's not forget that other teams are out to win the World Cup."

The former Real Madrid trainer defended his decision to select five goalkeepers in the provisional squad stating that all are there on merit and there may yet be an injury to one of those selected and noted that he is optimistic about the fitness of Fernando Torres and Andres Iniesta.

"I've chosen five [goalkeepers] because there may still be an injury in the remaining games and it's recognition for all of them. [David] De Gea is the find of the year. [Victor] Valdes has had two wonderful seasons, as has Diego Lopez. With [Iker] Casillas and [Pepe] Reina, there is no reason to drop them from the list," he remarked.

"[Andres] Iniesta has already started to run and we are very positive. Xavi has been superb and there will be no further problems with him because he does not play any more in the league. We are optimistic and I think [Fernando] Torres will be at the World Cup. The prospects are good."

Finally Del Bosque noted the inclusion of Barcelona starlet and revealed that he booked his place in the squad in the second half of the season.

"He [Pedro] has proved very clever in front of goal. He sacrifices a lot in defence and settled his inclusion in the second half of the season," he added.
