Chelsea star believes Three Lions can be champions...
While Frank Lampard is confident that England can lift the World Cup this summer, but the Chelsea midfielder has confessed that the Three Lions are terrified of crashing out of yet another major tournament on penalties.
Since the 1990 World Cup, England have been eliminated from five major tournaments on penalties, losing to both Portugal and Germany twice and Argentina once.
While Lampard believes that England has what it takes to win their second World Cup, the Chelsea star knows that the squad will have to perform better from the penalty spot if they want to lift the trophy in South Africa this summer.
"I think it has become a bit of an issue in the mind,” Lampard told The Sun.
"No matter how well we have played in a match, when it comes down to penalties, you think: 'Oh s*** here we go again'.
"Once you've got that mindset, it is hard to get out of it.
"That's why the Germans are so good at it. They get to penalties and they have a confidence, an arrogance I suppose that they are going to win.
"England need more of that self-belief."
Lampard has scored 21 goals this season and if Chelsea can defeat Wigan Athletic at home on Sunday the Blues will clinch the Premier League title.
