Bafana - Benni McCarthy South Africa
West Ham United striker Benni McCarthy is hoping to earn a call-up into the South Africa squad that will compete in the 2010 World Cup.

The 32-year-old forward has been frozen out of the international set-up following an altercation with former national team boss Joel Santana.

However, McCarthy intends to bury the hatchet with regard to playing on the international stage and consequently stake a claim to participate in the showpiece even in his home country.

"South Africa will get the benefit of me doing well for West Ham," McCarthy is quoted by The Mirror as saying.

"If the club is playing fantastic, then everything will be perfect.

"After that I can go back to the national team and concentrate on trying to do my best for my country."

McCarthy still holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals for South Africa.
