Iran ended their run of three straight defeats to defeat North Korea 1-0 on Saturday in the final match of the Qatar Friendly International Tournament.

Despite the defeat, North Korea win the tournament however with six points from three games, Qatar and Mali, who drew 0-0 earlier in the day, have four points each while Iran are bottom with three.

Mehrzad Madanchi scored the only goal of the match late in the first half.

After defeats against Qatar and Mali, it is a welcome result for Team Melli as they prepare for their 2011 Asian Cup qualifier against Singapore on Wednesday.

For the first time in the tournament however, Iran fielded a strong line up and were rewarded just before the break.

Madanchi burst into the area through a crowd of red shirts to take advantage of a fortunate rebound and lob the ball over goalkeeper Ri Myung Guk.

North Korea, who qualified for the 2010 World Cup at Iran’s expense struggled to get back in the game and never really looked like getting the equaliser.
