World Cup 2010: Carlos Alberto Parreira Absence Delays Squad Selection

The absence of Bafana Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Perreira has delayed the naming of the squad that is scheduled to go into camp in Durban on January 15.
The team was due to be announced yesterday but the coach was still at home in Brazil.

According to team manager Sipho Nkumane, SAFA is waiting on the coach and all will be known when he returns, probably next week.

“We cannot announce the team without the coach. He is the one to name the squad, but as we speak he is still in Brazil. We will have to wait for him to return and then we can announce the team; that means it will be a week before the camp itself.”

Nkumane told that they are looking at possible friendly games with neighbouring countries, like Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana and Zimbabwe during the camp.

“If we can have a game or two on January 26 and 28 then it will be much better but as I have said we are waiting for the coach and his technical team to tell us all about this then we will announce the squad."
