World Cup 2010: Additional Figures Could Be Hired To Aid France Coach Raymond Domenech

The FFF (Federal Council of the French FA) may have elected to keep Raymond Domenech in his role as national team head coach, but that does not necessarily mean that the former Olympique Lyonnais boss will enjoy full responsibility over the team during next summer’s World Cup.

It has been reported that several of the nation’s key footballing figures met on December 17 to discuss the possibility of supporting the trainer. France Football states that Frederic Thiriez, president of the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel), Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, Nancy president Jacques Rousselot, and chief of the UCPF, Jean-Pierre Louvel, met last Thursday due to their concerns over the national side’s form.

“Six months before the World Cup it would not be reasonable to sack the coach,” Louvel told L’Equipe. “The idea would be to place Raymond Domenech alongside a general manager and a sporting director. This would be one way to reduce his scope and free his hands a little more than at present.

“The Federal Council will now consider the idea. It’s difficult to say if they’ll accept such a proposal.”

France have been paired against South Africa, Mexico and Uruguay in the group stage of the World Cup finals but have friendly fixtures against Spain, Costa Rica, Tunisia and China to fulfil prior to the main event.
