South Africa did not get the 'favourable draw' they so desperately wanted last Friday, but midfielder Steven Pienaar is still confident Bafana Bafana have what it takes to qualify for the next round.

"For us to go to the second round, that is the expectation of the people. I think we can get out of the group," Pienaar told Sky Sports.

"Mexico and Uruguay play quite similar to us, only France will be a bit of a challenge for us.

"The crowd will boost the players and we will be confident with them behind us."

South Africa start the tournament with a match against Mexico on June 11 in Johannesburg.
