The Roma forward and Milan stopper both announced their international retirement in 2006 after Italy lifted the World Cup trophy.
There have been widespread suggestions of a return. Totti has left the door open, while Nesta has never really spoken publicly about the subject in depth. In any case, Cannavaro is on hand to encourage and influence.
"We always speak with Francesco, even Alessandro. We had the fortune of living the experience in Berlin and thus we have a strong bond," Cannavaro told the press as reported by Sport e Vai.
"One tries all the time, but these are choices that they have already made, and thus they must be respected.
"Both players are important, but it's all down to choices. I think [Marcello] Lippi should also be allowed to make his choices. In terms of the players, we are open to their return."
