‘Hyper-Efficient’ Defence Key For Marseille Against Milan – Didier Deschamps

If OM are to match the Serie A giants, they must play a perfect defensive game, according to their coach...

Ligue 1 : Didier Deschamps (Olympique de Marseille)
Olympique de Marseille head coach Didier Deschamps has analysed the performance of his side against Milan in their first Champions League encounter and has pinpointed the areas for improvement ahead of Wednesday night’s rematch at San Siro.

Hosting the Rossoneri on Matchday 1 of the competition, les Phoceens were edged 2-1 by out-of-form Milan and will have to redouble their efforts in Italy against a rejuvenated outfit.

“Milan did not play a great game, but a solid game,” Deschamps told the press. “They showed great efficiency, shooting three times and scoring two goals. We lacked concentration and that was enough to allow Milan to win.

“Consequently, we know very well that to expect a good result here, we must be hyper-efficient defensively, defending together, tight between the lines. We will not be satisfied with that and use what we can do offensively.”

Deschamps has enjoyed success in the iconic venue previously, as he was happy to recall.

“I have very fond memories indeed,” he smiled. “I played many games here. This is certainly one of the finest, if not the most beautiful, football venue. I am fortunate to have enjoyed many positive results with Juventus [at San Siro], including a 6-1 victory. It is a privilege and an enormous pleasure to play here.”

Defeat would likely see OM eliminated from the competition, while a draw would leave them counting on a miracle on Matchday 6.
