Sampdoria Striker Antonio Cassano Sets Wedding Date For Middle Of World Cup - Report
'Fantantonio' is convinced that no amount of protests will see him return to the Italy squad in time for the World Cup finals in South Africa...
According to 24oredisport.com, Cassano has organised his wedding for Saturday, June 19, 2010. This falls in the second week of the World Cup finals in South Africa, but Cassano will be in Italy with his partner Carolina and a host of celebrities instead. The ceremony is likely to take place in Portofino.
Marcello Lippi has been criticised by sections of the Azzurri faithful for not calling up 'Fantantonio' to the national side, which has led to a number of conspiracy theories as to the reason behind the exclusion.
Fans whistled Lippi during Italy's last two friendly matches - a reaction that the veteran trainer admitted had hurt him. Fabio Cannavaro has also labelled the jeers as disrespectful to the players who have been included.
Only time will tell whether Cassano's decision to arrange his wedding for the middle of the World Cup finals will put an end to the clamour for him to be included in Lippi's South Africa squad.
