Malta 1-4 Bulgaria: Record-Breaking Dimitar Berbatov Strikes Twice

Too easy for the United man and his side...

Malta were soundly beaten by Bulgaria in Rahal Gdid in a friendly on Wednesday night.

The Maltese were under pressure from the outset, and that they needed to wait five minutes to take the lead was something of a surprise.

Valeri Bojinov netted from close range after Stilian Petrov's through ball for that opener.

But with the Bulgarians looking complacent, Malta equalised right after the break as Michael Mifsud rolled back the years with a wonderful solo oal.

However, Valeri Domovchiyski then set up Berbatov for his first of the evening, and the hosts crumbled.

Blagoy Georgiev was next on the scoresheet with a direct free-kick and then Berbatov wrapped it up right at the death.

In doing so Dimitar made it 48 career goals for the Bulgarians - a new record, higher than Hristo Bonev's 47 and Hristo Stoichkov's 37.
