Ruud van Nistelrooy has declared that if he is not playing regularly for Real Madrid he could leave the club during the winter transfer window as he targets a World Cup place with the Netherlands.
The veteran Dutch goal machine is looking to make his second return from international retirement as he looks to take part in the World Cup finals with Holland next summer in South Africa.
With Gonzalo Higuain, Raul and new arrival Karim Benzema occupying the forward positions so far this term, Van Nistelrooy has been restricted to one league appearance since returning from injury, in which he scored to maintain his remarkable Primera Liga strike rate.
"I want to play. I have not spoken with [Manuel] Pellegrini, because I am still adapting but when I am ready I'll talk to him. If I have no minutes, I would have a reason to leave in January," he declared, according to AS.
"My intention is to play at the World Cup with Holland. If I don't play, that's impossible because [to make the Dutch squad] I have to prove that I can return to my previous level in the coming months.
The 33-year-old last featured for the Oranje at Euro 2008, scoring his last goal against Russia in the 3-1 quarter-final defeat. He has scored 33 goals in 64 appearances for Holland.
