Giancarlo Abete Calls For Tranquility Over Marcello Lippi's Italy Future
The head of Italian football has lobbied for a calm approach, warning the pre-World Cup fuss over Lippi's future will only lead to a poor showing in South Africa...
Marcello Lippi's future as coach of the Italian national team will not be decided with haste as Calcio chief Giancarlo Abete maintains tranquility ahead of next summer's World Cup.
The head of the Italian FA (FIGC) believes causing a fuss over Lippi's future now could lead to bloody noses by the time La Nazionale attempt to defend their World Cup crown between June and July.
Abete has always given Lippi a gleaming endorsement and he wants the good work to continue without outside noises.
"We will head to the World Cup with clear ideas. There is still plenty of time. We focused on qualification and now we have to go to South Africa with clear minds," Abete told Gr Parlamento.
"We must not make the [Lippi] argument into a problem. We are responsible to ensure everything goes smoothly and with tranquility. Without any manifestations so we do not create a situation like the one we saw in Euro 2008."
Despite Abete's calls for calm, reports around the peninsula claim for Roma coach Luciano Spalletti will take over for Lippi after the World Cup.
