Italy Striker Giampaolo Pazzini Against Amauri Call Up
Pazzini has shown the hand of objection to an eventual Nazionale call up for Amauri. As far as the Sampdoria man is concerned, it's a case of no Italian heritage, no Azzurri call...
Italy striker Giampaolo Pazzini is against Juventus striker Amauri getting a call to La Nazionale.
Coach Marcello Lippi has suggested there are still one or two places up for grabs for his final World Cup squad in June.
It appears his comments have lead to fear within the Azzurri camp as players fight each other for berths.
Pazzini believes Italian-born players should not be sacrificed for foreign ones who are eligible to play for the national team.
Amauri is currently waiting for his Italian passport and will be able to feature for the Azzurri once he gets it.
"I must confess [Amauri's situation] makes me annoyed. I can understand if someone is half Brazilian and half Italian, but it's another matter when he is not Italian in anyway," Pazzini told the press in Cervia, where the Azzurri are preparing for Wednesday's friendly against Sweden.
Meanwhile, Lippi continues to test Livorno's Antonio Candreva in midfield. He may start against Sweden after his appearance during the 0-0 draw against the Netherlands.
