Belgium 3-0 Hungary: Thomas Vermaelen Scores As Rejuvenated Red Devils Thrash Magyars
Second win on the bounce for Dick Advocaat's men...
Belgium continue to show early signs of recovery under new coach Dick Advocaat after comprehensively demolishing Hungary 3-0 in Ghent.
After a slow start, Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring just before the break with a fine solo effort into the corner of the net.
Just after the break, Eden Hazard's ball into the box was deviated by Gabor Horvarth towards Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen, who duly netted his first goal for his country.
While Hungary deservedly lost, they may feel that the margin of victory was harsh due to the referee's awarding of a late penalty.
Roland Juhasz - playing in familiar territory due to his Anderlecht connections - was adjudged to have fouled Daniel Van Buyten in the box early in the second half, with Kevin Mirallas able to step up and convert the spot-kick.
Neither side has qualified for the World Cup: Belgium's campaign was disastrous while the Hungarians' was somewhat more respectable. On the strength of this showing, though, this could be reversed during the race for Euro 2012.
