The Boys in Green better pick up a good result in the home match if they want to make sure RTE will air the return leg...

Republic of Ireland fans may not be able to watch the second leg of their team's World Cup qualifying play-off with France on television next Wednesday night due to a dispute over broadcasting rights.

Irish broadcasters RTE and Sky Sports are negotiating with the French Football Federation and local broadcasters TF1 but have so far been unable to reach agreement about next week's game.

A source close to Goal.com has now revealed that RTE will wait until after Saturday's game before making another attempt to buy the broadcast rights.

RTE are reportedly not preparing to make a move for the picture feed if Ireland fail to record a good result against Les Bleus at Croke Park this weekend, thus avoiding the broadcast costs.

As it stands, Irish fans face the very real prospect of not seeing their heroes battling for a place at next summer's World Cup finals.
