The Italy squad have been given a heroes' welcome by the people of L'Aquila - the town that was devastated by the April earthquake that left around 300 people dead.

La Nazionale have shown their solidarity with the locals. Over 3,000 fans watched Marcello Lippi's men train at the Stadio Fattori ahead of Saturday's friendly against the Netherlands.

The players and Lippi began training on Thursday morning at around 10:30 CET.

Gianluigi Buffon was given a huge reception by the fans when he began training. He only recovered from flu on Wednesday and joined the team the same evening.

As a sign of appreciation for their support, the World Cup that was won in 2006 was put on display by the training pitch for fans to admire.

After training, Italy are expected to visit the worst hit areas before lunch. They will then meet some of the people who have been affected by the disaster.
