Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has been called up to the Italy squad as a replacement for Daniele De Rossi, the Italian FA have confirmed.

Marcello Lippi has revised his list to include the Viola star who comes in to fill the void after the Roman underwent surgery to his broken cheek bone on Monday afternoon.

De Rossi was left battered and bruised after clashing with Inter's Patrick Vieira during the 1-1 draw at the San Siro on Sunday night and will play no part in the Azzurri's forthcoming friendlies.

A statement on the FIGC's official website reads:

"Riccardo Montolivo will be the midfielder to replace Daniele De Rossi who injured himself during the match between Inter and Roma.

"Lippi has added the player's name to the list, and he has also given Giuseppe Rossi permission to join the squad on Wednesday."

Rossi was expected to join the Giro Azzurro on Tuesday in Rome like everyone else. Italy clash with the Netherlands, and then Sweden in a double header friendly schedule.

Here is the revised list of the 25 man squad:
