Algeria Midfielder Karim Ziani Confident Of World Cup Qualification
The Wolfsburg midfielder can’t imagine a scenario where the Fennecs let their World Cup qualification hopes slip through their hands next month against Egypt.
Algerian national team playmaker Karim Ziani has told El
Heddaf that despite the fact that Egypt are still in the race for the World
Cup, he is extremely confident that the Fennecs are going to qualify for the South African jamboree and is not at all concerned by the
wins accumulated by their rivals to stay on their tail.
“Personally I was expecting a strong comeback from the Egyptians after they were shaken by their defeat we subjected them to in June. Egypt had their backs against the wall and had to beat Rwanda and Zambia at all costs to keep their hopes alive,” he explained.
“In the end, the only time they lost was against us and on a big scoreline. That confirms the value of our group. All that’s left for us is to prove it further by going and bringing back qualification from Cairo.”
The Greens’ talisman was also asked about reports that Egyptians celebrated in the streets after Algeria defeated Rwanda 3-1 because it meant that all they needed was a 2-0 win to leapfrog his side.
“Celebrating a victory before it occurs has become an Egyptian speciality. They already celebrated their qualification to the World Cup the day after the draw was made, thinking that they would make mincemeat of Algeria. To them I say: We’ll see who is celebrating qualification on the evening of November 14,” he added.
Ziani went on to insist that his side would go to Egypt with the firm intention of winning and not to play defensively and avoid defeat.
