Player Ratings: Italy 3-2 Cyprus
Italy ended their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-2 win over Cyprus in Parma. Goal.com rates the players on show...
ITALY
Marchetti: 6.5 - Completely blameless on both of Cyprus' goals. Aside from this he generally was okay. Made one great save at 2-2 from Charalambides.
Santon: 6.5 - One of the few Italy players to emerge with credit tonight. Showed good pace down the right, although he did play Okkas onside for one of his one-on-one chances.
Gamberini: 4 - A horror show at the back by the Fiorentina man. At fault for both goals, being skinned prior to the first and making the mistake before Michael's strike.
Cannavaro: 6 - Returned from his long injury layoff, and while he understandably wasn't at his best he was by no means a disaster like Gamberini.
Bocchetti: 6.5 - Was making his full debut, and was steady if not spectacular at left-back. Prefers to play in the centre but did a job as a terzino.
Gattuso: 4.5 - Is not good enough for this level anymore. Gattuso's legs have gone, but Lippi wants to play his politics so he stays around.
D'Agostino: 6 - Sprayed the ball around nicely, and curled a free kick just wide, but wasn't helped by the fact he was playing alongside Gattuso and Pepe.
Pepe: 5 - Ran a lot, but absolutely no quality. Squandered Italy's two only chances of the first half with two horrible slices. Hooked at the break.
Quagliarella: 7 - Poor for most of the game, but sees his rating become positive due to the fact that he delivered the cross for the second goal, and had the shot which led to the winner.
Rossi: 5 - Extremely disappointing. Just did not get into the game, and when he did receive possession he often lost balance or was pushed off the ball.
Gilardino: 9 - What can you say? Has his critics but he singlehandedly saved Italy over these last four days, and his clinical hat-trick completed an incredible comeback tonight. Has certainly booked his ticket to South Africa now, barring injury.
Substitutes
Camoranesi: 7 - No Camoranesi, no creativity in midfield. His introduction made Italy more unpredictable, and he assisted Gila's first.
Di Natale: 6.5 - Added some pace to the attack, although he missed a great chance on 69 minutes.
De Rossi: 7 - Italy took charge of the midfield after his introduction. Almost scored with a header.
CYPRUS
Avgousti: 6.5 - Made a string of fine saves in the second half before he was finally overpowered by Gilardino's late treble.
Charalambous: 6 - Was having a very solid game at the back, but was completely overpowered at the end for Italy's three goals.
Christou: 6.5 - Started the game very confidently, but limped off after just half-an-hour and was replaced by Satsias.
Michael: 7 - Scored a brilliant volley to put Cyprus 2-0 ahead, and had a fine game before tiring in the final 20 minutes.
Avraam: 7 - Superb for most of the game, competed like a man possessed. Unfortunately, like most of his colleagues he had no answer to the late blitz.
Charalambides: 6 - Did not have the same impact that he did against Bulgaria at the weekend, but held his own.
Elia: 6.5 - Got really stuck in tonight, and certainly showed Gattuso how to be a bulldog.
Dobrasinovic: 5.5 - Was doing well until the last 15 minutes when he completely undid all his good work before.
Makrides: 7 - Provided an assist, and was one of Cyprus' leading lights as they almost pulled off a famous result.
Aloneftis: 8 - Very impressive both down the left flank, and when cutting into the centre. Fast, tricky, and great delivery with his left foot. Created the early chance for Okkas. Why was he substituted?
Okkas: 7.5 - A constant thorn in the Italy backline, and Gamberini in particular could not handle the Cypriot veteran. Scored the opener, and had two other fine chances.
Substitutes
Satsias: 6 - Started well, but struggled at the end.
Konstantinou: 5.5 - Made no impact after coming on.
