Morocco Midfielder Jaouad Zairi: Everyone Is At Fault
The Olympiacos man has expressed great disappointment at the current struggles of the Atlas Lions.
After briefly taking part in his team’s humiliating 3-1 away
loss to Gabon in Libreville that officially ended the North Africans’ World Cup
dream, Moroccan international midfielder Jaouad Zairi spoke to French radio
station RMC and indicated that every squad member must share the blame
for the dire situation that they find themselves in.
“I don’t know if there’s one or more [problems] but it's not going well. Nothing we’re doing is working. Maybe there exists a lack of motivation as far as players go. We’ve changed coaches quite a few times and the group has evolved. This lack of stability has weighed on us,” he explained.
“We deserve what’s happening to us. It’s everyone’s fault. We have to put a stable system in place that allows us to find a group that has affinities [with each other], like what Algeria are doing right now.”
The former Sochaux star also rued the current situation Hassan Moumen’s squad finds itself in after one game away from completing what many consider to be the most disastrous World Cup qualifying effort put forth by the country in its storied history.
“We started badly and it became difficult to come back. At the beginning we were one of the group favorites with Cameroon. Our players are of a high level but haven’t been able to win matches,” he added.
“Now, we find ourselves having to beat Cameroon while hoping for a misstep by Togo against Gabon to go to the African Cup of Nations. We’re all disappointed.”
