Former France U17 player Hassan Yebda has told Le Buteur
that he is absolutely delighted at the prospect of representing the country of
his parents during Algeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, which
will be played in Blida next month.
According to reports, Algerian boss Rabah Saadane is expected to call up the Auxerre product - who is now plying his trade with Portsmouth in the English Premier League - as a replacement for the suspended Yazid Mansouri in midfield.
Meanwhile, the player has said that while he hasn’t received any news yet, he is certainly looking forward to it.
“For the moment I haven’t gotten anything but if I get the call-up this week, like you say, I’ll respond favorably to it of course! There’s no doubt about that,” Yebda said.
The player also reflected on FIFA’s new law which allows footballers to switch national team allegiances after having turned 21.
He indicated that it was a great initiative and that even though it was proposed by the Algerian Football Federation, it has benefited other countries and players as well.
He continued, “It’s true that many African players were happy to see this law passed.
"All the players concerned welcomed it with great joy since it opened up the possibility of them playing with their country of origin. Honestly, I’m happy for everyone,” he added.
