Hungary Coach Erwin Koeman Eyes Victory Against Portugal
Sep 9, 2009 11:20:31 AM
The Dutch coach is aware of Portugal's strength, but still wants the full three points...
Hungary meet Portugal on Wednesday evening in a much-anticipated World Cup qualifier, and they are keen to bounce back after their loss against Sweden. Head coach Erwin Koeman has made it clear that he's keen to record a victory and grab a six-point lead on the Portuguese."It is really unbelievable that Portugal are only the fourth side in the group. They are by far the best team in the group, but they have somehow failed to deliver so far," Koeman was quoted as saying by Voetbal International.
"It is crucial for us to be focussed for the entire 90 minutes on Wednesday evening. We can't afford to allow them too much space. However, we should not forget that we have a three-point lead at the moment.
"I would be delighted to see us beating Portugal and double our lead as a result. We still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup finals if we manage to shrug off Portugal."
Koeman's side were unfortunate to be left empty handed by Sweden last weekend, losing 2-1 due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal in stoppage time.
