David Silva Delighted With Spain Role
Spain may not have Andres Iniesta, but they have David Silva...
David Silva has revealed that he was asked to offer something different in Spain's convincing win against Belgium at the weekend.
The Valencia star was sidelined through injury last term and is revelling in his return to form, which saw him produce an outstanding display for la Furia Roja.
In the five goal drubbing of the Belgians, Silva struck home the first two efforts, despite not playing in his favourite position.
"I like to see the movement of the forwards, but I have played in every position across the middle of the pitch and also behind the striker," he told AS.
"I prefer to play as the link man and to look for the best pass and find the hole. But occasionally one has to go wide and beat the man to deliver a cross or break into the area to score.
"The first goal is always the hardest thing for Spain because of the way our opponents close things up at the back.
"Then the coach asked me to combine going forward as well as going out wide, and that is what I tried.
"[Vicente] del Bosque asked me to do similar things as [Andres] Iniesta. We all miss him, of course, but we have the players here to cover."
