Rugby Specialist To Help Bafana

Bafana Bafana has engaged the services of the Springboks 2007 World Cup winning psychologist Dr Henning Gericke.
The national team technical bench is seeking to employ all avenues to thoroughly preparing for the colossal task that awaits them in the FIFA Confederations Cup that kicks off on June 14.

It is no secret that this will be the first time that the majority of the Bafana will be playing at such a high level on the international stage and the expertise of Gericke is being sought to calm down nerves.

Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane, who is familiar with the mental elements affecting local players, is at the forefront in working with Gericke.

“We are trying to uplift the mentality of the players while trying to fix here and there in consultation with Henning. We know Henning has been working with the rugby team where the players are from a different background and the culture different, but we are looking at finding a common principle of success," says Mosimane.

Henning is assisting in consultation with us because we want him to understand the kind of background that our players are from and the kind of fans that follow the game.

“There will be something common found that worked for rugby that we can also use here. In the past, while I was at SuperSport, we engaged a psychologist from the Proteas and it worked and I hope the magic of success in rugby will also rub onto Bafana Bafana."
