Japan have announced that they are considering a chance in their policy towards bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups…
Part of the plans for those games would include building a 100,000 thousand capacity stadium in Tokyo.
Despite co-hosting the 2002 World Cup, Japan is in need of the 80,000 capacity stadium required by FIFA.
JFA chief Motoaki Inukai has declared however that no Olympics does not mean no World Cup.
“Even if (Tokyo’s bid) fails it does not mean we will automatically pull out (of the race for World Cup),” Inukai told reporters
“We will examine the possibility of hosting the World Cup independently.”
FIFA will announce the host nations for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in December 2010.
England, Russia, Mexico, Australia, the United States, Qatar, Indonesia and South Korea are also in the running while Spain and Portugal, and Belgium with the Netherlands, have submitted joint bids.
