Holman hoping 'Aussie mentality' can help him succeed at Aston Villa

The 28-year-old midfielder is looking forward to making an impact in the Premier League, and is hopeful of following in the footsteps of countryman Mark Bosnich on British shores

Australian midfielder Brett Holman is looking to make an immediate impact with Aston Villa when he joins the west Midlands club from AZ Alkmaar in July.

The 28-year-old had his most successful season for the Dutch side last year, scoring seven goals and assisting 15 in 42 appearances.

Ahead of his switch to the Premier League, Holman praised former AZ coach Louis van Gaal, and said playing in in England will give him the chance to emulate another great Australian who also played at Villa - goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.

"The way they play in Holland is very technical and, mixed with an Aussie mentality, I think it is a great combination," Holman told the Wolverhampton Express and Star.

"Playing under Louis van Gaal [at Alkmaar] you learn a lot as a player and that has definitely rubbed off on me.

"I also know about what a good goalkeeper Mark Bosnich was for this club and he really made his name here.

"He gave Australians a good name at Villa Park and I hope I can make an impact as well."

The player signed a pre-contract agreement in March while former boss Alex McLeish was still in charge at Villa Park.
