Defender expects teams challenging for top four spot to drop more pointsTottenham centre-back Michael Dawson believes his side can still secure a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League despite dropping yet more points against a team at the bottom end of the Premier League table.
Spurs were frustrated by West Ham at White Hart Lane on Saturday as the visitors held on for a 0-0 draw and Dawson insists his side could not have given any more against Avram Grant’s side.
He said: "You couldn’t have asked for anymore from the lads they gave everything they’ve got, it was just one of those days. We just could not get the ball in the back of the net.
"Apart from that everything else was good. We played well and were in control of the game but we just could not get the ball in the back of the net."
This was the sixth game that has seen Spurs drop points after a Champions League game and it is their third straight Premier League game without a win but Dawson believes on another day his side would have taken all three points.
He said: "It’s always disappointing when you drop points whether it is after a Champions League game [or not]. We just have to get back to winning ways and unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.
"West Ham got men behind the ball and did what we did to AC Milan. Sometimes it’s just hard to break down those sides.
"Of course whoever you play it’s difficult and that has been shown in our last three league games.
"The game next week against Wigan will be no different and it will be another difficult game away from home."
Harry Redknapp’s side now sit four points behind Manchester City, who occupy fourth spot, but the north London club do have a game in hand and Dawson thinks there will be more ups and downs to come in the race for Champions League qualification.
He said: "It’s disappointing but every football match we go into we go out to win it.
"Everyone is fighting for their life at the bottom and it’s going to be like that until the end of the season and there will certainly be more points dropped by other teams.
"We will just have to take it game by game."
