Carlo Ancelotti Hints That Chelsea Are Monitoring Aguero & Pato, But Plays Down Talk Of January Signings
The Blues boss has casts doubt over the likelihood of any January purchases...
Despite the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to postpone Chelsea's transfer ban, imposed because of the "inducement" of Gael Kakuta, Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti has played down speculation that the west London club are set to capitalise on the situation by adopting a policy of aggressive recruitment in the winter window.
Chelsea have been linked with recruitung an attacker to bolster their ranks, as in-form striker Didier Drogba as well as Salomon Kalou will be absent in January owing to Ivory Coast's involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations - leaving Nicolas Anelka alone to lead the line. Atletico Madrid magician Sergio Aguero and AC Milan starlet Alexandre Pato have both been mooted as potential targets.
"All the clubs follow young talents, and he [Aguero] is surely one of them, like Pato," Ancelotti told Italian coaches at an assembly in Milan.
"We have a few players who will be leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, and I think we will stay as we are in January."
On the differences between English and Italian football, Ancelotti remained diplomatic.
"There aren't many in terms of a technical side or atmosphere."
The Stamford Bridge side recently defeated Manchester United by a 1-0 scoreline, and it is a result that did not surprise Ancelotti - because the former AC Milan boss feels his squad is superior to that belonging to Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Manchester United? We have something more than them.
"We are aiming to get to the end of every competition. We have started well and the team is very strong."
