Manchester United & City To Tussle For Ajax Gun Luis Suarez - Report
The two Manchester clubs are set to fight it out for the attacker...
The Times reports that Manchester United are preparing to battle their cross-town rivals, Manchester City, for the signature of Ajax's Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan is widely regarded as one of world football's most promising young forwards. At 22 years of age, he already captains his club, and boasts 25 international caps.
But it is Suarez's scoring record in the Eredivisie - 55 goals in 76 games - and his ability to excel in a number of attacking roles that has attracted Sir Alex Ferguson, who sees the player as a direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Meanwhile, at Eastlands, it is thought that Mark Hughes has added the former Nacional striker to a shortlist of targets to pursue in the event that Robinho - repeatedly linked with Barcelona - leaves the club.
Italian giants Inter and Milan are also reported to be interested in Suarez, and Ajax are reportedly holding out for £35 million - although they will not prevent him from leaving at season's end should a reasonable offer be made.
“The technical management have to take this decision, but we are prepared to consider possible good offers,” said the Dutch club's general manager, Rik van den Boog.
“We want to keep him until the end of the season, but we also want to make him happy.”
