thumbnail Hello,

The local boy has responded to the challenge his manager set for him at the start of the season, and has been rewarded accordingly...

Hull City have today confirmed that Nicky Barmby will be staying at the club beyond the end of the current campaign, as his existing contract has been extended by another season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough forward, born and bred in the city of Hull, was urged by his manager to prove himself worthy of another contract, and the player's delight at having done so was clear when he spoke to the club's official website, though Sunday's vital game against Manchester United was, understandably, also at the forefront of his mind.

"We've sorted out another year, so I'm set to play for another season," he said.

"I'm really pleased and the manager has been great towards me, as has the chairman.

"But I'm putting that news on the backburner for now because we all just want to concentrate on the game on Sunday."

The Tigers welcome Manchester United to East Yorkshire on Sunday, knowing that a victory will extend their stay in England's top flight, of which they were part for the first time in their long history this season.
