Aguero: Messi deserves Ballon d'Or

The Manchester City forward believes the Barcelona star should win the prestigious award, and says he hopes he too can one day take the crown

Sergio Aguero says Lionel Messi deserves to win the Ballon d'Or, while revealing his desire to lift the trophy in the future.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be the Argentine's main rival for the crown, but the 24-year-old insists his compatriot deserves to triumph ahead of the Portuguese because of his all round contribution for club and country.

"Leo Messi should win the Ballon d'Or. For everything that he does with Barcelona and when he is with the national team, Leo [Messi] deserves this award," he told Ole.

The former Atletico Madrid man enjoyed a sparkling debut season with Manchester City and revealed his own aspirations to one day reach the level required to win the award himself.

"I know that it is very difficult, but by doing this well I hope that one day I can win the Ballon d'Or. One always dreams of being the best player in the world," he said.

Aguero then spoke of his international aspirations, and believes it is vitally important that Argentina qualify for the 2014 World Cup sooner rather than later.

"The most important thing is qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil 2014 as soon as possible. If we lose two games in such a difficult qualifying section, our rivals can catch us," he added.

"It has been a good year for Albiceleste, each time we play get to know each other more and some moves we can do from memory."
