The Red Devils captain, who was voted into the Fifa/FifPro World XI, has hailed the Argentine after he was named the best player in the world for the third year in a row
The United skipper was in attendance as the Argentine pipped Barca team-mate Xavi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo to collect his third Fifa Ballon d'Or award in a row.
Vidic was also honoured at the ceremony in Zurich, earning a place in the Fifa/FifPro World XI after winning the Premier League and helping his side reach the Champions League final last season.
The defender told Goal.com: "I think Messi is the best forward in the world. It is very difficult to play against him.
"But he is not only a forward, he is moving everywhere. He is a very good player. Xavi is a very good player as well, it's nice to watch him playing."
Meanwhile, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson also picked up the Fifa Presidential Award for his services to football throughout his career.
