‘It wouldn't have been enough to knock over my one-year-old daughter’ - Chelsea’s Cahill slams Emerson over red card
The defender was sent-off late in the Blues' Club World Cup defeat in Japan, and the England man is dismayed by the behaviour of the Brazilian midfielder
Gary Cahill has admitted he deserved to be sent off for the foul he committed in Chelsea's Club World Cup final defeat to Brazilian side Corinthians, but says he was appalled by the reaction of Emerson - the man he fouled.A second half header from Paolo Guerrero secured a 1-0 win for the South American side, and with tempers flaring late-on in the contest, Cahill admits frustration got the better of him, but only after being provoked beforehand.
"He lashed out with his arm and hit me in the face,” the former Bolton defender told reporters.
"Someone's smashed me in the face but I didn't roll around on the floor for five minutes holding my head.
"I got up, reacted and tapped him in the shin. He felt the need to go down, roll around on the floor for about five times holding his face.
"It probably is a red card but the reaction of the guy is totally out of order for what I did if you see the impact.
"It wouldn't have been enough to knock over my one-year-old daughter."
Shortly after the game in Yokohama, Fifa confirmed that Cahill will be issued with a one-match ban, which rule the Chelsea defender out of his side’s return to domestic action when they face Leeds United at Elland Road in the Capital One Cup quarter final on Wednesday evening.
