Adelaide United Coach: I Am Proud Of My Team
Despite losing 1-0 to Gamba Osaka in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday and losing the chance to face Manchester United, Adelaide United boss Aurelio Vidmar was proud of his team’s display.
Yasuhito Endo scored the only goal of the game but Adelaide came close on a number of occasions to getting something fromt he match.
The game was certainly more competitive than the two legs of the Asian Champions League final played out by the pair in November when Gamba won 5-0 on aggregate.
“I thought we played a very good game tonight and I thought we probably deserved a little bit more out of the game than what we got,” Vidmar said after the match.
“We know we were up against a superior opponent but that proved to me tonight that we can match it with a side like Gamba.”
“I’m very proud of the way they performed tonight. I think it a fantastic improvement from the ACL Final and it is giving us a benchmark of where we should be heading and where football in Australia should be heading.”
Now Adelaide will face African champions Al Ahly on Thursday in the play-off for fifth and sixth places.
“Now we just look forward to Thursday’s game and once again it’s another game where we want to do our very best and win,” Vidmar added.
