Ligue 1 : Foued Kadir (Valenciennes)

Valenciennes midfielder Foued Kadir is set to be sidelined for the next six months after scans on his knee have confirmed a suspected anterior cruciate ligament tear, according to AFP. The player had to be carried off the pitch right before half-time of Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Marseille.

“It’s highly possible that his ACL has been hurt,” said Philippe Montanier in a post game interview.

Unfortunately, Kadir’s worst fears were confirmed as a midweek scan revealed the tear. The news is also a blow to the Algerian national team, which must now embark on their 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign without one of their starters.

The French club has yet to announce when the 24-year-old will undergo surgery.
