Mouhamadou Dabo Talks Of Lyon And Arsenal Interest

French under-21 international, Mouhamadou Dabo (pictured), has expressed his pleasure that clubs such as Lyon and Arsenal are being linked with a move for him, but has been non-committal as to which side he would prefer a transfer to.

A broken fibula has kept Saint-Étienne’s prodigious young full-back, Mouhamadou Dabo, out since mid-October - but this has not stopped the youngster being touted for a January transfer. A roving presence on either side of Sainté’s defence, the 21-year-old has begun to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Olympique Lyonnais and Arsenal emerging as the two prime candidates to sign him.

The Dakar-born youngster has not denied that a move this winter is a possibility, explaining to l’Equipe, “For now I am thinking of my treatment. I will then go on holiday and let my agent think of that [potential transfers].”

An injury crisis at Lyon has led to the club's general manager seeking additional cover at full-back, with Dabo one name firmly in the frame. “Lyon are a great club,” the Sainté number 21 explained. “They are recognised nationally and internationally and are always competing near the top of the game in all competitions. When I saw they were interested in me in the newspapers, it warmed my heart.

“All players need to experience the highest level, to play in the Champions League. It’s very gratifying. It’s important for me to be ambitious.”

Although Dabo hinted that he would one day like to play in England, he refused to be drawn over his next move. “The English league inspires me,” he admitted. “It would be beneficial for me if I could play there one day, but I am not there yet. But in France, Lyon are a great club. I will not close any door to my future.

“I don’t see me leaving Saint-Étienne this winter, especially during this difficult situation, but I do not know what will happen tomorrow. As I said before, I must do what is best for me.”

Dabo will, once again, be sidelined for les Verts as they take on Valencia this evening.
